Al-Majeed walking away to cheers STORYLINE: The Russian Embassy in Baghdad announced on Wednesday that it will begin evacuating some 600 Russian citizens from Iraq. The Russians will begin sending their citizens out of Iraq on Thursday. Embassy officials say they expect the evacuation to be completed by the end of the week. Ali Hassan Al-Majeed, the cousin of Saddam Hussein, who is best known for his suppression of a Kurdish rebellion in 1986 in the north of Iraq, attended Iraqi Women's Day ceremonies in Baghdad on Wednesday. Iraqi officials say the day marks a celebration of "the role of Iraqi women in the defence of the homeland". Sources said Al-Majeed's presence at the ceremony was unusual. Al-Majeed was recently named to lead defences in the south of the country in the event of a war.
