With volunteer assistance from SUS's board and in collaboration with Dalit Solidarity Network, Finland (DSNFi), SUS carried out a project titled "Dalit Story Project: Terai-Dalit Youth Empowerment through Storytelling" in 2021–2023. The project has been implementing in the Dalit populated municipalities of the Sarlahi district (Lalbandi, Haripur, Hariwan, Kabilashi, and Chandranagar Rural Municipality). Using storytelling as a tool to inspire and motivate young Dalits, the project has so far increased the competences of Dalit youths as change agents. The outcome was impacted by young people's increased ability to gather support and organize advocacy to assert their rights using digital storytelling platforms, as well as their enhanced ability to take collective action against discrimination based on caste. A dynamic online portal, http://www.dalitstory.org.np, is being developed as part of the initiative and is managed by the Dalit Story Club District network with technical assistance from SUS. The ongoing project is going to be phased out from the 31st of December 2023. A team of SUS's and DSNFi had conducted a joint monitoring visit on the first week of September in 2023. The monitoring team had discussed with local stakeholders and youth beneficiaries and identified new areas of intervention for the long-term sustainability of the intervention. A follow-up to the storytelling project, "Dalit Resource Center for Barefoot Youth Engagement in Nepal" intends to empower young Dalits by setting up a Dalit Resource Center.
