Survivors are often left with lifelong mental disabilities that prevent them from working, caring for their families, and leading productive lives. The Peter C. Alderman Foundation (PCAF) was established to help communities recover from the emotional wounds of trauma by training health care professionals and establishing clinics in post-conflict countries around the globe, including Uganda, Tanzania, Liberia, Kenya, and Cambodia.
