The Rallarvegen is a spectacular gravel road across the Hardangervidda Plateau in Norway. It starts in Haugastol, a small settlement on the main Bergen - Oslo train line, and it stretches 50 miles across the plateau to Myrdal station and then off down a track to Flam at sea level. It can be done in a day, but we took two days over it, staying over at the Finsehytta, just 17 miles from Haugastol. You can reach Haugastol by taking the train from Bergen or Oslo, or a train from Flam to Mydral and then change at Myrdal to pick up the Bergen-Osloa train. There are bike hire companies in Haugastol and Flam who let you drop the bike off at whichever end of the route you choose. Easy access, superb terrain, and spectacular scenery throughout. This is one of the best rides I have ever done.
