On 2/17/2026 District 70 was dispatched to assist the City of Dayton Fire Department for a large pile of recycling materials on fire. Tanker 702 responded with two personnel and 3,000 gallons of water. Upon arrival, personnel were met with heavy smoke and fire conditions. Tanker 702 was assigned to establish drafting operations and supply Tower 82. Eventually, three dump tanks were utilized with 13 tankers in rotation. The fire would continue to burn for approximately 21 hours. A shelter in place order was issued by TCEQ for residents north of the incident for a prolonged period of time due to the toxic smoke. 15 Fire Departments and approximately 500,000 gallons of water were utilized during extinguishment efforts. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Liberty County Fire Marshal's Office. Every department and every responder on scene showed true professionalism and dedication. For such an extraordinary incident, I applaud each and every one of you. Special applause goes out to incident command, City of Dayton Fire Chief Chad Glatfelter. For not only making sure resources and personnel were distributed appropriately to maintain operational success, but also making sure every firefighter and support personnel were taken care of. No injuries were reported as a result of the fire. The fire was deemed extinguished at approximately 4pm on 2/18/2026. LCESD No. 7 Facebook https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?...
