It was dedicated to Sheila Parry, a cherished supporter of the Flowers Band. Paul Richards is celebrated as one of the finest soprano cornet players in the brass band world. Starting his career in Cornwall with bands like Mount Charles and St Austell (where he became Principal Cornet), Paul later joined the Sun Life Band, holding the Principal Cornet chair for five years beginning in 1988. This prolific period saw the band win the British Open and secure the WMC Kerkrade World Title. After a hiatus, Paul returned to banding, helping to establish Brunel Brass and guiding them from the Fourth to the Championship section in six years. Now a pivotal member of the multiple award-winning Flowers Band, Paul has achieved massive success as a soprano soloist, securing top accolades including Best Soloist at the 2015 National Finals, Best Soloist at Brass in Concert 2018, and Best Soprano at the 2024 British Open. He has also twice been the Best Soloist at The French Open and the Butlin’s Mineworkers Championships.
