Machine Learning and the Future of Focused Ultrasound Technology

Rick Hamilton, Chief Technology Officer for the Focused Ultrasound Foundation, explores the topic of machine learning (ML) and its potential application to focused ultrasound (FUS). He defines ML as the science of getting computers to act without being explicitly programmed and outlines how it has been transforming healthcare over the past few years. Hamilton believes that by using ML techniques, there are opportunities to improve patient selection, treatment planning, and results interpretation in FUS. To drive these improvements, the Foundation has launched an ML Acceleration Program, which offers updates, resources, and working groups to help interested parties collaborate and contribute to the field. Hamilton encourages FUS practitioners to get involved and together transform future therapies for better patient outcomes.
