The difference isn’t likability or complexity. It’s whether the story is built around character logic instead of plot convenience, so plot-driven stories vs character-driven ones. First we’ll go over how strengths, flaws, and “neutral traits” actually function as decision engines: traits that shape assumptions, choices, conflict, tension, and consequences. When done right, characters don’t just react to events, the events happen because of who they are. We’ll also see how stories fall apart when the plot drags characters from scene to scene instead of letting their internal logic generate momentum. Then, we’ll break down how flaws really work, as predictable patterns: “Flaw → Bad assumption → Action → Consequence. This is what creates inevitability, escalation, and payoff without forcing drama. Then I’ll teach you how to structure these traits out, how to balance them out (and using redeeming counter-weights), and finally how to turn character design into story engine via three paths: 1) Understanding how traits create decisions. 2) Growth Arcs. 3) Downfall Arcs. 4) Using neutral traits to shape relationships and create chemistry.
