I'm Matt, and in this quick video, I’m going to show you how to add an area chart in Looker Studio. First off, I’m logged into the Looker Studio backend and have navigated to page two for a bit more space to work with. To add the area chart, I simply click on “Add a Chart.” Here, you'll see a variety of chart options available, including line charts, scatter plots, and multiple area chart types. There are three options specifically for area charts: stacked area, 100% stacked area, and the standard area chart. For this demonstration, I'm going with the standard area chart. Next, I drag and drop the chart into my desired location on the page. You can resize the chart using the hooks at the bottom to make it larger or smaller. By default, Looker Studio populates the chart with data, which is great for getting started quickly. Now, depending on the data sources you have linked, like mine which includes Google Analytics data, you can easily change your data source if needed. If you want to add a new data source, that’s also straightforward. Let’s talk about customizing the chart. The x-axis is currently set to date, while the y-axis shows sessions. If I want to change the y-axis to something else, like views, I just start typing “views” in the search box and select it. Instantly, the chart updates to reflect the new data. Another useful feature is cross-filtering. You can filter the data shown in your chart based on different criteria. For instance, I have a date range filter set to 28 days, but you can easily adjust this to 7 days or any other range you prefer. That’s pretty much it! Adding an area chart in Looker Studio is a straightforward process. Just remember to select your data source, and it might differ from the Google Analytics data I used.
