The Akron Police were notified by detectives that they were looking for Jemar Simmons with the intent of arresting him for a warrant. It was confirmed through LEADS that Simmons had an active federal felony warrant for his arrest, issued by the FBI, for being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a machine gun. While on patrol in our marked police cruiser, detectives observed Simmons traveling south on N. Hawkins Ave, near the intersection of N. Hawkins Ave. and Thurmont Rd. They provided the officers with additional information that he was the driver and sole occupant of a silver 2021 Nissan Rogue bearing Ohio license plate JKK3802. Akron Police Officers were positioned in the parking lot of Christ Woodland Church, located at 444 N. Hawkins Ave, facing east. They observed Simmons in the listed vehicle as he passed by, traveling south on N. Hawkins Ave. We had an unobstructed view into the passenger compartment and were able to positively identify him based on his BMV photo shown on the LEADS page. They activated their lights and sirens to conduct a traffic stop on Simmons for the listed warrant. Simmons refused to comply with the provided order and signal to stop, leading the officers on a vehicle pursuit through residential neighborhoods. He disregarded all traffic laws, creating a risk to public safety. Simmons eventually lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a tree near the intersection of Castle Blvd. and Garnette Rd. He then fled from the police on foot. Officers identified themselves as police officers while giving chase and issued numerous verbal commands for him to stop, stating that he was under arrest. Simmons refused to comply and continued to flee, running into a heavily wooded valley, which substantially obstructed the officers from completing their lawful duties. He was eventually apprehended and transported to Akron General Hospital by AFD Med 12 for potential injuries from the vehicle crash. Simmons was issued a traffic citation and transported to the Summit County Jail for the listed offenses. ⚠️Note: Footage from this video was obtained via the Ohio Public Records Act (R.C. 149.43) All persons featured on the channel are to be presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
