Residential DOUBLE GLAZED Window Installation and SLIDE OUT DECK! - UNIMOG DIY Camper (Eps. 40)

A Perth based company called DuoGlass double glazing was interested in our project and helped us out a bit so we could put in these awesome windows. The frame profiles are made by Salamader in Germany (a company located not far from where we live) and then built here in Perth. The windows are all double glazed glass originally designed for residential use, but easily adapted to a caravan or camper project. There are different mounting styles, so all the drilling we did may not apply to another project, but for us it was important to have the windows recessed so they wouldn't protrude past the steel box and possibly get ripped off or damaged when going through shrubs. If you are interested in getting windows like this for a project of your own, let us know and we can give you our contact's details, as he is an industry expert with many years of experience. For our installation we added screws 150mm from the corners and 300mm apart. The gaps we left for fitting the windows were filled in with Sika Pro sealant, as it dries similar to a rubber, to allow flex and at the same time provide rigidity. The other option was to use expanding foam, which would have been easier but not provided the flexibility and strength of Sika (when it is fully dried). We also received some trims to go around the windows and these will be added when the sika has fully cured. The feel of the box with windows in gives a huge sense of progress that has given us lots of motivation to get it done soon! Jele also started working on our slide out deck, she started by cutting all of our decking boards to length and then spent 2 days oiling them. After that we began to fix them all to the steel frame with stainless decking screws. In between we took care of some small projects such as adding and fasting all the M20 and M12 bolts that hold the box to the tray. In total we have 4 M20s (one in each corner) and 13 M12s which are attached to the lateral supports of the tray. The M12s have the heads welded to the SHS as they will not be accessible after the floor is in, but we will try and leave the M20s accessible in order to remove them, just in case we ever have to take the box off the mog again.
