Peace has been a fragile thing in Northern Ireland, despite the Good Friday Agreement being signed almost 30 years ago, tensions can still be felt. But an unlikely group of balaclava-wearing, ketamine-snorting rappers may just be the new face of unity, as Kneecap, the Republican group, has just shared a stage with Protestant rapper Young Spencer at the capital's biggest venue. Catriona spoke to the proud Protestant Shankill musician behind the stage name ‘Young Spencer’ about the significance of their recent performance together at Belfast’s SSE Arena. Although the rappers come from what Spencer describes as “polar opposite backgrounds,” with conflicting political views and religious beliefs that have long divided their communities, their collaboration sends a powerful message of unity and aims to bridge the gap between Protestant and Catholic "post-conflict babies."
