"Apna Asmaan" is an enchanting allegorical fantasy, inspired by a true story, that delves into the depths of human emotion with a central theme of autism, emphasizing the need for parents to love and accept their specially abled child. Celebrated at international film festivals and crowned with the prestigious German Star 2007 in Stuttgart, this cinematic masterpiece is a creation of the visionary debutant filmmaker, Kaushik Roy. Featuring an ensemble cast led by the incomparable Irrfan Khan, alongside Shobana and the young prodigy Dhruv Panjuani, with remarkable performances by Rajat Kapoor and Anupam Kher in pivotal supporting roles. Irrfan Khan embodies Ravi, the quintessential quiet man within the colony, harboring discontentment with his failing marriage and an autistic son named Buddhi, portrayed brilliantly by newcomer Dhruv Panjuani, who was nominated as the Best Child Artiste by Screen Cine Awards. Ravi believes his wife Padmini, portrayed by Shobana, blames him for their son's condition. Both parents, haunted by unfulfilled dreams and aspirations, yearn for a prodigious transformation in Buddhi's life. When Ravi crosses paths with the enigmatic scientist Dr. Sathya, brought to life by Anupam Kher, he embarks on a daring journey. Ravi steals Dr. Sathya's mysterious drug, designed to cure mental disorders, and in a moment of anger, injects Buddhi with it. This action propels Buddhi into a realm of normalcy, transforming him into a mathematical wizard. But this miraculous change comes at a price, as Buddhi assumes a new identity and loses all memory of his past, setting in motion a series of uncontrollable and tragic events. "Apna Asmaan" is a poignant exploration of the complexities of autism and the profound need for love and acceptance within families.
