1. The power of kindness and why we should train ourselves to be kinder 2. A simple act of kindness can be the spark that inspires a great change. This is the belief held by the members of the Global Youth Alliance for Kindness, a youth-led initiative that started in September 2019 after the first World Youth Conference on Kindness, which took place in New Delhi, to inspire and mobilise the youth of the world to transform the world through acts of kindness. Drawing on recent discoveries in Science, which have found that values which inspire kindness, such as empathy and compassion are “skills” which require training, this talk addresses why it’s time for us all to renew our hope in kindness, have conviction that kindness does matter and shares stories of young people who are literally helping to achieve a transformation of the world through kindness, on a very practical level. 3. Kindness, SDGs Lucy has previously worked as a writer for The Better India and has spent a year travelling across India with Clap Global visiting schools in various cities and villages to exchange cultural experiences and perspectives with young people and have conversations with them on a variety of topics including sustainable development, human rights, gender equality, peace and non-violence and global citizenship. In August 2019, she was one of 60 global youth leaders invited to take part in the very first World Youth Conference on Kindness organised by UNESCO and the Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP) in New Delhi commemorating 150 years since the birth of Mahatma Gandhi. Lucy was part of the drafting team for the New Delhi Declaration on Kindness for the SDGs, which brought together the voices of more than 1,200 young people from 117 countries calling for a kinder world, and presented to the Hon'ble President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
