Your Love Is Like a River (Flowing from My Heart)

Friday, February 13, 2026 "Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, 'Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.' " (John 7:38) Today's guest devotional is from the drummer of the band who wrote and originally recorded today's song. "The song, "Your Love Is Like a River," is one of my favorite songs. A lot of that just has to do with the spirit behind it. The theme is taking three attributes of God: that his love is like a river; that it's like a fire; and that it's like a rock. "When I think of a river, I think of something that's constantly flowing. It's dependable. It's powerful. As water moves through a river, it cuts its own path. God's love is like that. It's hard to stop it -- it's impossible to stop it! "I've experienced that in my own life, this washing over of his love in my life. It keeps moving through constantly, no matter what I'm going through: if I'm having a great experience or a really tough time. The consistency of God's love is incredibly comforting. "When I think of fire, it's not only hot, it not only radiates heat and warmth, it also burns up impurity. We have things in our lives that need to be purified, that need to be renewed. Fire does that. It's often painful when it does that, but what comes as a result of the fire burning up impurities in our lives is a blessing. "Then, the lyric is your love is like a rock that I'm standing on. That's a very common theme in the Bible. A rock is a firm foundation that's solid, that will never move. It can't be shaken. It's something that we can stand on rather than standing on loose soil or sand that will wash away or blow away with the wind or the rain. "Those are three aspects of God's character and how they play out in my life and how they play out in the lives of anyone who believes. It's powerful, and I think that's why this song really has hit home with all of us, and especially for me." -David Carr
