#Kanga #KangaCamp #manapools Kanga Camp, located in the remote and pristine Mana Pools National Park in Zimbabwe, is known for its incredible wildlife viewing, including a resident pride of lions. It was so special when we visited Kanga Camp as our expert guide, Reggie, found a large (21 lions) pride of lions in the late afternoon, lying in the shade beside the river. Kanga Camp is uniquely situated around the Kanga Pan, which is the only permanent water source in a significant radius (up to 12 miles) during the dry season. This makes it an absolute magnet for all wildlife, including lion prides. As other water sources dry up, animals are forced to congregate at Kanga Pan, providing excellent opportunities for lions to hunt and be observed. This concentration of prey directly supports the resident lion pride. Guests at Kanga Camp have a very high chance of seeing lions. Reviews and reports frequently mention sightings of lions right around the camp, often coming to the pan to drink, rest, or even make kills. Some guests have even seen lions from their tent decks or the main camp area! We were certainly lucky to see a very large pride, and the next morning we saw the pride frolicking, fighting and running about in the riverbed. The Guides at Kanga Camp are highly skilled in tracking and approaching lions on foot. Like all lion prides, the Kanga pride was composed of several lionesses (often related – mothers, daughters, sisters), their cubs, and a few males. Lionesses are the primary hunters, using their agility and speed to bring down prey. They also play a crucial role in raising the young, teaching them essential hunting skills through play. Male lions are primarily responsible for defending the pride's territory from rival males. These territorial disputes can be fierce and are vital for the pride's survival. They also protect the cubs, even engaging in "hands-on" care when the lionesses are out hunting. In essence, the presence of a permanent water source at Kanga Pan in an otherwise dry area makes Kanga Camp an exceptional location to observe, amongst other animals, Lions. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Checkout my Outback videos: • Discovering Australias Outback ___________________________________________________________________________________ Soundtracks: From Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com Deep through the swamps by Experia African Treasure by Sight of the Wonders Afternoon Sun by Sahara Skylight From Storyblocks https://www.storyblocks.com/ Fast Tribal Drums by Velimir Andreev From YouTube Audio Library Accralate - The Dark Continent by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/...
