Ozurdex implant can be given at the conclusion of vitrectomy surgery for various indications, such as diabetic macular oedema, uveitis, epiretinal membranes, or selective cases of proliferative vitreoretinopathy. I prefer to make a separate injection site for Ozurdex, as I do most of my vitrectomies using 25g trocars. It is important to gently inject the implant and avoid shooting the implant inside the eye. The implant's exit velocity can be very high, especially in air-filled eyes, and it can hit the retina, causing retinal injury. Therefore, it is safer to inject from the temporal side, so the implant is directed toward the nasal retina to avoid any risk of hitting the macula.
