If you’ve ever dreamed of exploring the backwaters in Alleppey (also known as Alappuzha), Kerala, this India vlog is for you! In this Kerala travel vlog, we show you a different side of Alleppey, on a budget and off the beaten tourist track. We spent the first afternoon when we arrived kayaking through a peaceful village, and getting caught in the rain! The next day we opted to forego the more expensive boating options and instead headed south on a local government ferry to see the narrow backwaters where locals live. The total cost of the three ferries we took over four hours was 78 Rupees (under $1 USD!) for both of us. We stayed at the warm and welcoming Eden Cabana Homestay, where our amazing hosts cooked us some of the most delicious Keralan meals we’ve ever had. Instead of booking a luxury houseboat, we explored Alleppey independently and affordably, using public ferries and it turned out to be one of our favorite days in Kerala. It was also our only day in Kerala.
