The figure skating team event ended on Sunday with victory for the United States, finishing just one point ahead of Japan. Italy came third. A day after the team's success, U.S. pair Ellie Kam and Danny O'Shea reflected on their gold medal win. “It's heavy It's definitely, like, there's, it's like a weight around your neck that feels like you're like, oh, it's solid. This is an Olympic gold medal,” Ellie Kim told SNTV. And while some athletes complain about problems with their medals, Danny O'Shea is enjoying his. “I wouldn't want it to be flimsy and small, right? It's hefty, and I think any of the issues have been coming from the substantial nature of it, right? Which is a pretty awesome thing to have. And once it goes into its, like, safe container when we get home, there'll be no worries whatsoever,” he told SNTV. O'Shea's age makes this victory even more special. “That's not disrespectful at all. I understand, right? I'm 34, and I'll be turning 35 next week, and that's pretty old for figure skating's life. And we both kind of considered this, like, another chance at going after things, right? When we started skating together about four years ago. It was just filled with so much gratitude to be back on this stage and have another chance at going for something like this,” he replied. For Kam, the choice to team up with O'Shea represented an opportunity. “Yeah, we just wanted to kind of give it our all, and I feel like that's part of the reason why Danny and I have been able to work through so much of what people would see as obstacles. I think in the obstacles we found a way to connect better and be a stronger team. So, we both kind of took that in running stride and look at where we are. We got Olympic gold medal around our necks,” she told. The two will return to the ice on February 15th for the day dedicated to the short program of the pairs competition.
