Protest leaders said they would organise protests until Kosovo's declaration of independence was nullified by the United Nations. Evgenija Ojdanic, a student travelling from the Serbian town of Novi Sad, told AP Television that Serbian students were there "to give support to Kosovo Serb students". "We want to say that we will always be behind them, supporting people here and we will never give up Kosovo. Kosovo is ours," said Ojdanic. Meanwhile, Serbian officials said on Friday the acquittal of a former Kosovo rebel leader of murder, torture and rape of Serbs and non-Albanians during the Kosovo war, will increase tensions in Kosovo and diminish the chances that top Bosnian Serb fugitives Ratko Mladic and Radovan Karadzic will be arrested. Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica said the UN war crimes court for former Yugoslavia has lost credibility with the verdict and challenged the European Union to drop its insistence that Serbia arrest the two genocide suspects before it can establish closer ties with the bloc. The UN tribunal in The Hague, Netherlands, ruled on Thursday that there was not enough evidence to convict former Kosovo Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj of murdering and torturing Serbs and non-Albanians during the Kosovo war. Serbia, backed by its traditional ally Russia, has refused to endorse the secession calling it illegal under international law. Belgrade has vowed to one day retake the territory. The dispute has led to tensions in Kosovo, where local Serbs clashed this week with UN and NATO peacekeepers. The violence left one UN peacekeeper dead and dozens injured. Kosovo has been run by the United Nations and NATO since a 1999 NATO air war forced Belgrade to end a crackdown against the ethnic Albanian separatists and pull out its troops. Kosovo declared independence after two years of failed U.N.-brokered talks.
