It is located in the Tovar municipality, in the Aragua state and is considered one of the most attractive tourist places near Caracas. It was founded in 1843 by almost 400 immigrants who, in a complicated journey of several months, arrived in Venezuela from the Duchy of Baden, before the Republic of Germany was formed. Colonia Tovar was established as a closed community that keeps its Nordic-alpine customs, over the years there has been a certain miscegenation, although its inhabitants try to maintain the idiosyncrasies in terms of clothing, food, dances, crafts, lutheria, traditional brewing and language. One of the most important and interesting attractions that La Colonia Tovar has is its church ⛪ of San Martín de Tours, it is a religious building that belongs to the Catholic Church built by immigrants of German origin in the town of Colonia Tovar, in the Municipality Tovar to the north of the Aragua State, and to the north center of the South American country of Venezuela. It is located right in front of the Plaza Bolívar de la Colonia and initially, it began as a chapel between April and August of 1843. It was expanded and modified several times. In 1994 it was declared a National Historical Monument. 💒 Other of the important attractions in the town is its museum🤓. In it, its creator, the chronicler of the city, Professor Nestor Rojas, has put a large part of his life to show visitors and residents a piece of the history of La Colonia. Showing the productive, archaeological and especially historical wealth found in the Colonia Tovar Museum, a house with the typical architecture of the area. On the first floor, it has very diverse material that corresponds mainly to the cultural and agricultural production of the area, including a couple of indigenous petroglyphs, the skull of a tapir and tools with which the land was worked in the 19th and 20th centuries. .🧐 On its second floor, many historical elements are exposed, a list with the first 400 settlers in the area, very old firearms and some anthropomorphic figures sculpted about 5,000 years ago.
