Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday reached Houston where he is scheduled to address 50,000 India diaspora at mega 'Howdy, Modi' event on Sunday. On arrival in Texas city, Modi was received by Director, Trade and International Affairs, Christopher Olson and other US officials. India Ambassador to US Harsh Vardhan Shringla and US Ambassador to India Ken Juster were also present for his welcome at the airport. On the first day of his week-long US visit, PM Modi will have a round table meeting with the CEOs of oil sector companies. On Sunday, September 22, the Prime Minister will deliver his address to nearly 50,000-strong crowd at 'Howdy, Modi', an Indian community event, which has assumed added importance with US President Donald Trump also attending it. Prime Minister Modi on Friday expressed confidence that his upcoming visit to the United States would present India as a vibrant land of opportunities, a global leader and boost bilateral ties. Modi's visit to the US will end on September 27. In his departure statement, the Prime Minister detailed the itinerary of his visit to the US where he will interact with CEOs of leading energy companies, besides attending a community event in Houston and addressing the 74th session of the UN General Assembly in New York. The Prime Minister will hold talks with US President Donald Trump and will review the bilateral relations in order to bring even more benefits to both countries and its peoples. Modi will also be honoured with the Global Goalkeepers Goals Award 2019 from Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. "In Houston, I will interact with CEOs of leading energy companies in the US with the aim to enhance India-US energy partnership. Energy has emerged as a new area of mutually beneficial cooperation and is fast becoming an important facet of our bilateral relationship," Modi said. Talking about his visit to New York, Modi outlined India's contribution to the United Nations. "In New York, I will participate in various major events in the UN. Since its participation as a founding member of the UN in 1945, India has shown unwavering commitment to multilateralism to advance peace and security and promote broad-based inclusive economic growth and development in the world," he said. The theme of this year's UNGA session is "Galvanising multilateral efforts for poverty eradication, quality education, climate action and inclusion". The Prime Minister said he will reiterate India's commitment to reformed multilateralism, which is responsive, effective and inclusive. "There are many pressing challenges for the international community - a still fragile global economy, turbulence and tension in many parts of the world, growth and spread of terrorism, climate change and the endemic global challenge of poverty," Modi said adding that they require stronger global commitment and concerted multilateral action. "I will reiterate our commitment to reformed multilateralism, which is responsive, effective and inclusive, and in which India plays her due role," he said.
