If you have an electronic automatic feeder on your steam boiler, be it either the excellent VXT or the meh Uni-Match, the likely failure point is the rubber diaphragm inside the same brass valve they both use. One indication of imminent failure of the valve is if you push and release the manual feed button on the feeder and it takes a second or longer to cycle closed, i.e. the valve does not close right away when you release the feed button, its time to rebuild the valve.
