In 1908, as tuberculosis spread rapidly across the United States, Governor Frank Hanly approved the opening of the Indiana State Tuberculosis Hospital in the remote hills of Parke County to quarantine the growing number of patients. Renamed only a few years later, the Indiana State Sanatorium continued in operation, shifting purposes until its final closure in 2011. Though its halls once echoed with the struggle for life and health, today they are remembered for something else entirely: the belief that the Sanatorium is haunted.
