Actions speak louder than words. The Gert Sibande District Municipality (GSDM) successfully hosted a high-impact Councillor Workshop on Anti-Fraud, Anti-Corruption, Ethics, and the Code of Conduct at the GSDM Office Complex in Ermelo on 17 February 2026. This critical governance workshop focused on strengthening ethical leadership, accountability, and transparency among public representatives. As custodians of public trust, councillors play a vital role in promoting clean governance and responsible service delivery within communities. The session featured valuable insights from Nontshikelelo Hayward, Ethics and Integrity Deputy Director from the Mpumalanga Office of the Premier, who emphasised the importance of moving beyond policy compliance towards “Integrity in Action” in local government. Key Highlights: Promoting a culture of ethical leadership and moral regeneration in municipalities Strengthening anti-fraud and anti-corruption awareness among councillors Enhancing transparency, accountability, and good governance practices Equipping public representatives to identify risks and uphold the Code of Conduct Advancing the GSDM motto: Spectamur Agendo – “By our deeds we are known” Through this workshop, GSDM reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance on fraud and corruption, while reinforcing its commitment to building a transparent, accountable, and community-driven district of excellence.
