After the abolition of slavery in the United States, tap dancing became an essential element of African-American culture. In the first decades of the 20th century, it had emerged as a code of communication in black communities. This concert illustrates the crossover between its two main facets: Broadway tap dance, which is common in musicals and films, and Jazz tap dance, which belongs to the jazz tradition of instrumental improvisation. 00:00 Bambalina Choreography: Eddie Rektor Music: Sid Robins (1912-1985) & Charlie Shavers (1920-1971): Undecided 01:49 D. & E.
