So we headed to Las Cruces, New Mexico to ride the north part of the Monumental Loop, a 130-mile route from Las Cruces to Hatch and back, through the Chihuahuan desert and the Organ Mountain-Desert Peaks National Monument. But instead of loading our bikes down with camping gear and days worth of food, we’ll be traveling light, buying what we need along the way and sleeping in a real bed. And while not carrying all the gear might make it sound like we’re doing this on easy mode, it also means we have no choice but to make it to our destination before dark each night.
