In this five minute English pronunciation class we're going to focus on these two vowel sounds: /e/ and /æ/. These vowels are really common in English and lots of learners don't make them different enough. They are both short, front vowels. Don't be tempted to make the /æ/ the same as the vowel in words like "start" or "hard". It's crucial to make sure your mouth is open wide enough so /æ/ is clearly different from /e/. Try these pairs:Ed / addbed / badkept / captainJenny / Janethead / hadset / satNow look at these sentences:- My friend Ed was the captain of the local running club. - Jenny has to add the scores up at the end of the game.- You'll have to go to bed earlier if your behaviour keeps being so bad.- I kept getting annoyed with Janet.- You had set that meeting up for the wrong time.- I told him it would be on his head if he sat down in the boss's chair.
