Unstan Chambered Cairn on Orkney was thought to be built 5,000 years ago as a communal burial place. This is just one of hundreds of similar sites to be found throughout Orkney. It sits on the banks of the Stenness Loch. From the cairn the Ring of Brodgar is clearly visible and this is a very sacred and ancient landscape. Its fascinating how these passage mounds and chambered cairns appear in major megalithic complexes across Europe. They have a proximity to stone circles, standing stones and water. While human remains are often found, they seem to have been used for generations, indicating a deeper purpose. What were these structures really for? Thank you for watching.
