IOWA CITY, IA (CBS2/FOX28) - From Illinois to Wisconsin, Jeff Nassif had supporters from all over today. His team, Jeff's Warriors, is supporting him in his fight against multiple myeloma. "It was a pretty difficult time for us, myself and my family," Nassif said about being diagnosed two years ago. It was just during a routine checkup where doctors found out. "I wasn't having any symptoms of any problems and they found some abnormal blood work, kind of investigated things further until they found out I had multiple myeloma," he said. It crowds out your body's healthy blood cells. "It affects your bone marrow and blood," he said. This means Nassif's energy quickly drained. "Mostly fatigue," he said. "I developed a low hemoglobin which led to the uproot of fatigue." But thanks to his warriors walking in his honor, he's able to find strength. "Going through this whole process by yourself would be impossible so having family and friends' support is very worthwhile," he said. Nassif's wife agrees. "There are still tough days, but you just gravitate to your family and your friends for strength, comfort and management," Heidi Nassif said. Nassif is still undergoing treatment and said he's slowly regaining his strength. "The good thign is they're coming through with a lot of treatments that are helping people live longer than they have in the past," he said. The Eastern Iowa Miles for Myeloma organization said they hold this walk every year. They also encourage others to donate to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.
