Jesus brilliantly used parables to provide us keys to dethrone the rule of religious spirits. The Pharisees of Jesus’ day walked with an armor coating of arrogance that caused them to belittle and mock common people – yet these were the very people that God had called the Pharisees to shepherd. Jesus modeled a different form of leadership – He reached out to the tax collectors and sinners and confronted the Pharisees with bold statements like, “Assuredly, I say to you that tax collectors and prostitutes enter the kingdom of God before you” (Matthew 21:31). Jesus used parables to pierce the armor of religion in the lives of the Pharisees and open their eyes to true Kingdom leadership. Jesus saw great results as many Pharisees became Christians and helped lead the early church (Nicodemus and Paul are examples). Keep your heart open to heaven’s strategies to pierce the armor coating of religion and bring people into right relationship with the Lord. Be blessed. Remember: you have been “blessed to be a blessing.” (Genesis 12:2) Pay it forward! Paul “I'm deeply grateful to our Lord for trusting me enough to appoint me his minister despite the fact that I had previously blasphemed His name.” That's a man who fell on the rock. He was humbled. I had previously blasphemed His name, persecuted His church, and damaged His cause. I believe he was merciful to me…” Can we say this out loud together? I believe He was merciful to me because what I did was done in the ignorance of a man without faith.” See? He had lots of knowledge but no faith. Paul didn't understand relationship with God. He didn't understand God as a father, he was an orphan trying to earn his way into the love of God. You need to see God as a loving father who wants you to grow. Jesus is reaching down and pulling you up to the next level. “Scaffolding” is a learning technique that teachers use. Picture a building that's got 10 floors with scaffolding on the outside. The construction workers are going up and down on the outside of the building on the scaffolding. Suppose there was somebody on the 8th floor that had to pass a power drill down to somebody on the 2nd floor. Would they drop it from the 8th floor? No, because it could they kill the guy on the 2nd floor. You're either going to ask the guy underneath on the second floor to climb up to you, or you're going to walk down to them. And this is the beauty and brilliance of Jesus. He meets each of us right where we're at to give us the exact tool we need to take us higher. Luke chapter 15 says that Jesus was hanging out with tax collectors and sinners. The Pharisees were looking at Jesus with the tax collectors and sinners and what were they thinking, “What a low-life, loser Jesus is. I can't believe we're here, the high and mighty people, the knowledgeable people and he's hanging out with those lowlifes.” The tax collectors and sinners are saying, “Jesus is pretty cool. Those religious people are over there but He wants to be with us.” The tax collectors and sinners were drawn to Jesus. It never says they were drawn to the Pharisees. Religion doesn't draw people, it shames people. Relationship has a way of loving the sinner without condoning the sin. The religious folks just couldn't do that. Jesus decides to tell a parable of the prodigal son. Jesus not only loves the broken, he loves the Pharisees. But they have armor on, their knowledge is like armor. Jesus finds the combination to the lock so He can get behind the armor of their intellect. He tells a story that shows them that they are the older brother. So, when the Lord shows you something that you need to change don't run from it. It's an act of love because none of us are perfect. He wants us to keep moving higher.
