Zimmer and Powell created an interested motif for Kung Fu Panda's Second villain. the actual note progression isn't alarmingly evil when you first listen to it. It sounds more dangerous and crazed if anything, with the use of deep brass and uncertain rifting of metal wires. The way I look at it, Shen's score is almost as if he himself is listening to it. Through rose tinted glasses and denial, because it has a surprising amount of "non-evil" sounds, when in reality Shen is the worst enemy Po ever faced, with the whole genocide he created and how he tormented him. The motif has about 24 notes in its bare form, which seem to spiral into a sort of deluded state which reflects the character amazingly. Shen also has a quick paced,7 noted ostinato to go along side his main theme. This is used or his action scenes. The actual musical makeup of his theme is very reflective of ancient china, with the use of drums alone aswell as the amazing Erhu.
