Today we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Peterson light kit for trailers under 80 inches wide.These are really going to illuminate nicely at night time and put off a lot of light. As you can see here, our taillight shines brightly and then when we apply our brakes, it puts off even more light.As you can see, the license plate light shines bright, really illuminates that plate keeping us legal. The side marker light is going to shine brightly and help us and other motorists see the side of our trailer.Around the back of the light it features a nice flat mounting surface and that'll help us mount the light to the frame of our trailer. It also has nice long studs and hardware included so we shouldn't have a problem passing through our trailer frame. Up here we have some lettering and some holes and that's to install our wires and give our light power and ground.Around the back of this light we have plenty of wire to connect to a power source, and the stud itself also acts as the lights ground. Now you can see some lettering, and some holes up here and this is actually to run wires out of this light to jumper to another light, which can be a convenient thing to do.This kit is going to be a great replacement for your worn out trailer lighting. To find out if these are going to work well with your application, I'll give you a few measurements. The light itself from side to side is going to be 4-3/4 of an inch wide. From bottom to top it's going to be 4-1/2 inches tall. And the thickness or the depth of the light is going to be 2-13/16 of an inch. Now the mounting dimensions from the center of the bolt to the center of the other bolt is 2 inches.Now my favorite part about this kit is how easy they are to hook up and how bright they are. Another thing that I really like is how the license plate bracket is included, that way we don't have to worry about securing it somewhere else on our trailer and the fact that the license plate light is built into the taillight and shines nice and bright.Now that we've gone over some of the features, let's show you how to get our light installed. We'll come back to our mounting location and find our trailer's power wires. We're actually going to install them into the back of the taillight. Now if you look closely, you can see some lettering, it says stop and turn, yellow wires can go on this side, it says taillight, brown, so our brown wires can go on this side.Now the way these work is, we take our wiring and twist it really tight, we'll put it into the top hole or the larger hole. If we're having a hard time getting it in and seated, we can use something like a small screwdriver to push on that bottom hole, or the smaller hole, and that'll release a tab and let us push it in. Or if you ever need to remove the wire you can push that in and the wire will pull out.So I'm gonna go ahead and show you now. We'll take our yellow one and push it in. Give it a tug and make sure it stays in. We'll do the same thing with our brown wire. You can kind of feel it push through and seat. Alright. So now we'll kind of push these wires off into the groove and then we can take our light and put it through our mounting holes. We can just push our wires over into the groove cut out for them. Then we can take our license plate bracket, slide that over the studs, and then just push it into our mounting holes here on the trailer frame.And down here we can take our included hardware and get them both hand tight that way the light and license plate will stay in place and we can grab a wrench or a socket rather, and snug everything down.We can make sure our wire is out of the way and secure and just repeat that exact same process on the other side.Lights really easy to get installed. You simply just take your stud and place it through your mounting hole. On the other side of it we'll just take our nut and hand tight. And take our wrench and fully secure it. We can take our trailer's power wire and connect it to the light's power wire.Now the kit does come with some connectors, however, we're going to replace those with some heat shrink butt connectors because this wiring will live outside. If you need some of these, you can find it on etrailer.com. So we'll just put one end of the wire in, crimp it down and do the same for this end and then take our heat gun and heat up this heat shrink to get it shrunk down.And go ahead and pull our wire up and that way it stays out of the way and secure.
