HERE'S WHY Micah Christenson is the Smartest Setter in the World !!! Micah Makanamaikalani Christenson, born on May 8, 1993, in Honolulu, Hawaii, is a distinguished American volleyball player known for his exceptional skills as a volleyball setter. His full name, Makanamaikalani, translates to "Gift from Heaven," a name chosen by his parents due to complications during his mother's pregnancy. Growing up in an athletic family, Micah's father, Robert, played basketball at the University of Hawaii at Hilo, while his mother, Charlene, was a two-time All-American volleyball player at the same institution. His sister, Joanna, also pursued volleyball at Southern Utah University. Micah attended Kamehameha Schools Kapālama, where he excelled in both volleyball and basketball, leading his teams to three state championships—two in basketball (2009, 2011) and one in volleyball (2011). He began playing club volleyball in 2005 with Asics Quicksilver, marking the start of his journey in the sport. At the University of Southern California (USC), Micah was a four-year starter for the USC Trojans men's volleyball team and served as a three-year co-captain. His collegiate accolades include being a three-time AVCA All-American (2012, 2014, 2015) and a two-time recipient of the Off The Block Lloy Ball Award (2014, 2015), recognizing him as the nation's top collegiate setter. Internationally, Micah debuted with the U.S. national volleyball team in 2013 at the NORCECA Championship, where he was honored as both Best Setter and Best Server. He played a pivotal role in the team's gold medal victory at the 2014 FIVB World League, marking the USA's second title in the tournament's history. Micah has represented the United States in three Olympic Games: Rio de Janeiro 2016, Tokyo 2020, and Paris 2024, securing bronze medals in both 2016 and 2024. His club career includes stints with prominent volleyball teams such as Cucine Lube Civitanova and Modena Volley in Italy, and currently, he plays for Zenit Kazan in Russia. Beyond his athletic achievements, Micah is married to Brooke Fournier, a former USC indoor and beach volleyball player. The couple has two sons, Ezekiel Kūpaʻa and Quinn Makoa, and a daughter, Finley Maluhia. Micah's dedication to his family and faith complements his commitment to excellence on the volleyball court.
