#snow #snowstorm #canada #newfoundland #mountpearl #stjohnsband From February 17–24, 2026, a series of winter storms struck eastern Newfoundland and southern Ontario: on the Avalon Peninsula (Mount Pearl, St. John’s) heavy, wind-driven snow produced deep accumulations—many locations reported roughly 50–80 cm per event and St. John’s recorded a monthly total near 170.2 cm—while in Ontario and the Greater Toronto Area mixed precipitation of snow, freezing rain and ice pellets caused glaze on trees and wires. The storms produced whiteout conditions, blocked roads with packed snow and ice, prompted school and public-facility closures, and led to parking bans to allow plows to operate; airports and public transit experienced widespread delays and cancellations. Snow-clearing crews prioritized main arteries and emergency routes and utility teams worked to restore outages; the public was advised to avoid nonessential travel, follow municipal notices, and prepare a winter emergency kit in case of power loss or road entrapment.
