Completely setting politics aside, Souleyman consciously shares this personal ode to his native country with an emphasis on his emotional connection to the land and people but not without heartache in view of the nation’s current state. The basis for the song is a sincere homesickness for Souleyman’s Al-Jazira (his native region in north eastern Syria), as an English translation of the lyrics demonstrates, “When will our alienation end so we can go back home? We miss gathering together under the shade of our tree.
