"Jonathan, my disability hearing lasted only 15 minutes. Does this mean I won? did I lose? Should I be concerned?" My experience has been generally that most of the time short hearings mean that the judge saw the evidence in your case as compelling and that you will receive a favorable decision. Attorneys have an obligation to zealously represent our clients. If I have a strong case and I know the judge to be fair and reasonable, I would most likely not have a problem cutting short my prepared direct examination or forgoing that examination entirely. If the judge is new or if I have no sense about what the judge is thinking I would ask the judge for an opportunity to present my case. Preparing for a hearing also means learning as much as I can about the judge and how the judge runs his or her courtroom. This is another reason why local attorneys may be a better choice than a national law firm that does not have a robust local presence. Want more information about Social Security disability hearings?
