Game 7 was a fitting conclusion to the 1994 Eastern Conference Finals – an iconic game in one of the most iconic series in league history. Only one penalty was taken by each team throughout the entire game, and Mike Richter and Martin Brodeur were both spectacular in net. The Rangers opened the scoring at 9:31 of the second period when Brian Leetch, who was hampered for most of the series while playing with a shoulder injury, scored a highlight reel goal by skating with the puck behind the Devils net before completing a “spin-o-rama” to get to the front of the net and sliding the puck past Brodeur. The Rangers held on to the 1-0 lead until there was less than a minute remaining. With Brodeur pulled for an extra skater, the Devils tied the game in the final minute of regulation for the second time in the series, as Valeri Zelepukin scored the game-tying goal with 7.7 seconds left. Neither team scored in the first overtime period, sending the game to double overtime for the third time in the seven-game series. After the teams traded chances in the first four minutes, Stephane Matteau sent MSG into a frenzy by scoring the game-winning goal at 4:24 of the second overtime, beating Brodeur with a wraparound shot that slid through the goaltender’s pads and into the net. The Rangers had one more hill to climb as they headed to the Stanley Cup Finals. » Subscribe to the NYR http://youtube.com/nyrangers?sub_conf...
