But across Sri Lanka, lack of clean water and basic sanitation is threatening the health and futures of children affected by leprosy. Thibekka and Ajai have to dig a hole outside so their children can go to the toilet. When the monsoon comes, the family has to use nearby fields. They rely on the village well for their water. Some days it is bone dry. Thibekka is often stopped from using the well out of fear of leprosy, and has to return to her children with empty buckets.
