I recently traveled to Nigeria and had a terrible experience with RwandAir. I strongly advise against using this airline if you have other options. Here’s a summary of what happened: I planned to fly to Lagos for a friend’s birthday. Kenya Airways quoted $2,000 for an economy ticket, which was too expensive for a 5-hour flight. Uganda Airlines had reasonable fares, but a friend recommended RwandAir, citing a good experience. I booked a one-way ticket with RwandAir since return flights weren’t available for my preferred dates. I was denied boarding at the airport because I only had a one-way ticket. The staff claimed it was policy, but this wasn’t mentioned on their website. They argued I might stay in Nigeria indefinitely, which was frustrating and illogical. The check-in staff were rude and unhelpful. I booked a return flight with Uganda Airlines to resolve the issue, as they only required proof of a return ticket. However, RwandAir then insisted the return ticket had to be with them, a requirement they never communicated upfront. This was absurd, especially after paying for the Uganda Airlines ticket. After arguing and showing proof of previous trips to Lagos, I spoke to a manager who, after some discussion, allowed me to board since it wasn’t my first time visiting. However, the ordeal didn’t end there. The flight was cramped, with no space for hand luggage. A polite flight attendant took my carry-on to store it in the main luggage hold. I removed my iPad from the bag but didn’t think much of it, as she assured me I’d retrieve it in Lagos. Upon arriving in Lagos, I completed the lengthy visa-on-arrival process, which took an hour. When I went to collect my carry-on, it was missing. This bag contained my ID, credit cards, money, and all personal belongings. Despite the flight attendant’s assurance, my luggage was gone. I was stranded in Lagos with nothing. I’d have been in serious trouble if my friend hadn’t covered my hotel. RwandAir’s staff were rude from the start, their policies were unclear, and they lost my luggage, leaving me without essentials. I’m devastated and don’t know what to do. If my bag is found and items are missing, I’m unsure of the next steps. I’ve never used RwandAir before; this first experience was a nightmare. Please share if anyone has dealt with a similar situation or has advice. I’m financially stranded and desperate for help. Avoid RwandAir at all costs, no matter how cheap their tickets are. Use my experience as a warning and choose another airline if possible. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. #Rwanda #rwandair #paulkagame
