Welcome to Air Pollution Part 2 Malayalam lecture by Rajkumar Sir. In this class, we continue our Environment and Ecology series for UPSC, focusing on air pollution, smog, AQI, NCAP, GRAP, and Delhi’s pollution crisis. 🔹 What You Will Learn in This Video Smog Explained: Difference between Sulphur Smog (London Smog) and Photochemical Smog (Los Angeles Smog). Why one is called Winter Smog and the other Summer Smog. Air Quality Index (AQI): Understanding India’s AQI launched in 2014. Which 8 key pollutants are measured, and why CO₂ is not included in AQI. NAAQS vs AQI: Learn the difference between National Ambient Air Quality Standards (12 pollutants) and AQI (8 pollutants). Extra pollutants like Benzene, Benzo(a)pyrene, Arsenic, and Nickel. National Clean Air Programme (NCAP): Launched in 2019 by the Ministry of Environment, with targets to reduce PM10 and PM2.5 by 40% by 2026. Current status and performance of cities like Varanasi and Kanpur. SAFAR Initiative: System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research – measures air quality + weather parameters like UV radiation, rainfall, temperature, humidity, and wind speed. Developed by IITM and operated by IMD. GRAP (Graded Response Action Plan): Emergency framework for Delhi NCR, tackling rising air pollution levels with step-by-step actions like: Banning diesel vehicles Stopping diesel generators Odd-even traffic scheme Green crackers during festivals 🔹 Delhi Air Pollution – Causes & Solutions Delhi is ranked the most polluted capital in the world. Major reasons include: Geographical location: Landlocked, slow wind movement, temperature inversion in winters. Stubble burning: Punjab & Haryana farm residue burning adds to Delhi’s pollution. Population density & vehicles: Over 11,000 people per sq. km → more vehicles & emissions. Industrial cities nearby: Noida & Gurgaon contribute to higher pollution. Festivals & crackers: Seasonal spikes in air pollution. Solutions include Turbo Happy Seeder technology, Pusa decomposer, Odd-Even scheme, electric vehicle promotion under FAME scheme, and green crackers. 🔹 Why This Lecture is Important for UPSC Covers concepts + current affairs (AQI, NCAP, GRAP, SAFAR). Directly relevant to UPSC Prelims Environment questions. Helps in Mains GS-III Environment & Ecology answers with data, examples, and government measures. 👉 This video is part of the complete UPSC Environment & Ecology Malayalam lecture series, useful for Prelims 2025–26 and Mains preparation. #AirPollution #Smog #AQI #UPSCMalayalam #NCAP #GRAP #DelhiPollution #UPSCEnvironmentLecture #AirPollution, #Smog, #LondonSmog, #LosAngelesSmog, #SulphurSmog, #PhotochemicalSmog, #UPSCMalayalam, #UPSCEnvironment, #EnvironmentAndEcology, #AQI, #NAAQS, #NCAP, #NationalCleanAirProgramme, #GRAP, #GradedResponseActionPlan, #DelhiPollution, #StubbleBurning, #SAFAR, #AirQualityIndia, #PollutionControlIndia, #GreenCrackers, #UPSCPrelims2025, #UPSCMains2025, #EcologyLecture, #UPSCMalayalamClasses
