Autumn arrives and the leaves fall – it is time to do some development pruning and wiring on our Maple Bonsai. In fact, it is time to tackle many of our broadleaf deciduous bonsai trees. Right now, the tree is redistributing all of its energy and setting next year’s buds. During the next few weeks I can take advantage of this to do some significant pruning and wiring in preparation for the Spring push. I work on The Cobra maple, several of my bargain basement Maples and a Katsura maple airlayer. I also apply and chat about Dormant Spray. Do not put the tools away yet because this is your best opportunity for bending those branches and resetting some structure.
