Meet Alyssa Mercedes Mena, a Cuban-American flutist, composer, and educator whose work bridges performance and storytelling. As a composer, Alyssa draws inspiration from her Cuban roots, exploring themes of identity, memory, and connection through music that celebrates cultural heritage and human experience. Join us for ¿Quiénes Somos? on Saturday, March 14 to hear the PROTESTRA Wind Quintet perform Alyssa’s El Ajiaco. The piece is inspired by a soup that crosses over many cultures in Latin America through different iterations and forms, but all with the same purpose - to comfort and heal.
