Bladder perforation, also known as bladder rupture, is a serious condition where the bladder wall is torn, allowing urine to leak into surrounding areas. It can be classified into two main types: Intraperitoneal Rupture: The tear occurs at the top of the bladder, allowing urine to leak into the abdominal cavity. This is often caused by blunt trauma to a full bladder. Extraperitoneal Rupture: The tear occurs at the lower part of the bladder, often associated with pelvic fractures. Urine leaks into the surrounding tissues but not into the abdominal cavity. Causes: Blunt trauma (e.g., car accidents, falls). Penetrating injuries (e.g., gunshot wounds, surgical complications). Spontaneous rupture due to conditions like bladder infections, tumors, or chronic urinary retention. Symptoms: Severe lower abdominal pain. Difficulty or inability to urinate. Blood in the urine (hematuria). Signs of peritonitis (e.g., abdominal tenderness, fever) in intraperitoneal ruptures. Diagnosis: Imaging studies like CT cystography or retrograde cystography are used to confirm the location and extent of the rupture. Treatment: Small extraperitoneal ruptures may heal with catheterization and rest. #Bladder
