Filmed on Sunday the 26th of May 2019 in England, this is an interview with Brian V. Towns, who played the character of Horace (Harry) Derwent in The Shining. The scene Brian Towns played in is the well-known “Bear Suit Scene”, which features the owner of The Overlook Hotel and a man in a bear suit (Eddie O’Dea) performing explicit acts. Brian Towns wasn’t credited in 1980 because of personal (privacy) reasons. But he decided that now is the time to give a one-off interview and talk about the mysterious scene that is being discussed by many film fans. The bear suit scene was filmed on the 1st of March 1979 (after two weeks of waiting and hanging around the studios) in the EMI Elstree Studios, stage 9 and, needless to say, directed by Stanley Kubrick. Brian Towns began his career as a photographic model in the 50’s and later started working as a stuntman, double and actor for various productions (films and commercials). Amongst them are James Bond (From Russia With Love (1963) and The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) as a stuntman, amongst other Bond movies), Catweazle (stand-in) and The New Avengers (episode “Medium Rare”). In 1979 he was selected by Stanley Kubrick to play in what might have become the most discussed scene of The Shining.
