Ilse Annoeska de Lange, known as Ilse DeLange, is a Dutch country and pop rock singer-songwriter born on May 13, 1977, in Almelo, Netherlands. Her musical journey began at the age of 8 as a lip-synching artist, earning her recognition in contests. She transitioned to a live repertoire, gaining attention in regional and national talent shows. Despite initial challenges, she formed a duo with guitarist Joop van Liefland, delving into country music. In 1994, DeLange participated in the Dutch Country Music Awards and caught the eye of Warner Music representatives. After years of negotiation, she secured a contract. Winning the "Zangfestival der Onbekenden" in 1994 led to a demo recording opportunity. In 1996, A&R manager Henkjan Smits persuaded her to join the pop group Wij, releasing the single "De Oorlog Meegemaakt," which didn't chart. DeLange's breakthrough came in 1998 with the platinum-selling single "I'm Not So Tough," followed by hits like "Miracle," "So Incredible," and "The Great Escape." She gained international recognition as the lead singer of The Common Linnets, finishing second at Eurovision 2014. Notably, she presented and mentored Duncan Laurence, who won Eurovision 2019 with "Arcade." Ilse DeLange's accolades include the prestigious 'Jeff Walker Global Country Music Award' and multiple Edison Awards.
