Maui Montage #6 - Botanizing Haleakalā: Shield Volcano Endemics

It has been a long time since I've been so excited to put a video out. This is the finale of my Maui botany videos and at nearly and hour long, may be one of my most comprehensive, in-habitat videos I've put together. At just over 10,000' tall, towering above the central Pacific, Haleakalā and its taller neighbors Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea comprise some of the most unique habitat anywhere in the world. Existing at a tropical latitude, but extending to elevations that see temps below freezing, this habitat is like few places in the world. Hawaii's endemism is kicked into overdrive as one encounters plants not only unique to Hawaii here, but unique to the high montane elevations entirely. A minor hiccup interrupts the beginning of the video, but numerous plants from Hawaii's unique radiations of endemic species and genera can be seen in this video.
