Yobrepus anticipates hostile AGI takeover with new single ‹Firestorm› out Dec 15 «Firestorm» is a prog-rock ballad about a dystopian future, where AI and autonomous drones have taken over and man kind is rapidly being exterminated. «The song was written a few years back, but it seems the timing of the release couldn’t have been better, with recent advancements towards AGI in mind. I don’t necessarily believe in the Skynet-type of takeover that is portrayed in the song, but am quite concerned about how fast things are developing. The real danger may not be our literal annihilation, but be that we come out of this cognitive revolution as a less human species – thinking more like machines», says Mats Jørgen Sivertsen, the band’s songwriter. Despite the digital themes in the lyrics the musical arrangement is very organic, with acoustic guitar, a real string quartet and grand piano – the latter performed by jazz pianist Kjetil Jerve. «Firestorm» is the first single from Norwegian art-rock quartet Yobrepus’ upcoming ‹rock opera›, «A Rhizome Revolution», which will be released in two parts next year. The band consists of Mats Jørgen Sivertsen on vocals, guitars and keys, Vegard Weyergang Vartdal on vocals, synth and bass, Øyvind Rognerud on guitars and keys, and Paal Urdal on drums. Three quotes about Yobrepus: «I for one will be keeping a close eye on this band for hopefully years to come» – Sea of Tranquility «Yobrepus is quickly becoming a must hear band» – Take Effect «An extremely interesting new phenomenon on the art/alt-rock map» – MLW Musicians: Mats Jørgen Sivertsen – vocals, keys, guitars and loops Vegard Weyergang Vartdal – bass and synth Øyvind Rognerud – synth Paal Urdal – drums First violins by Madeleine Ossum Second violins by Lotte Hellstrøm Hestad Violas by Heidi Johnstad Arnesen Cellos by Ingeborg Skomedal Torvanger Piano by Kjetil Jerve
