In this Kazakhstan Travel Guide I want to show you the beautiful country of Kazakhstan, tell you how to plan your trip and share my 7 day itinerary that I used to see some incredible places around the country. I am going to tell you everything you need to know about visiting Kazakhstan, how to get around the country and how you can book your accommodations. My journey began in Almaty, a city surrounded by the beautiful Tien-Shan Mountains. I spent two days exploring this beautiful city, exploring its many landmarks and getting to know its people and culture. Second day I headed out towards Altyn Emel National Park where I spent two days. I booked my bed and breakfast upon arriving into a small village of Kalinino. As you will notice throughout the video, you cannot use search engines such as Expedia or Bookings for your stays, it is more common to find a guest house at your location once you arrive. I spend the first day driving to Singing Dunes which are located about 44km from the village and takes about one hour to reach. The following day I drove deeper into the park on a gravel road towards Katatau and Aktau mountains. From Altyn Emel National Park, I drove to the town of Shonzhy where I stayed the night prior to heading to explore Charyn National Park. Many visitors who come to this place do not realize that there are two other canyons nearby - Temerlik and Bestamak. The tours will not take you there so you should consider renting your own car for a roadtrip around Kazakhstan. I booked from Vladeks and Prokat and was very happy with my decision. https://v-prokat.kz/ After Charyn Canyon, I continued my roadtrip through southern Kazakhstan toward the Kolsai Lakes National Park. You can find many accomodations in the towns of Saty and Kurmenty - which are located within 15 minutes of each other. The top sights here include Lake Kaindy, for which you will need to hire a drive because the roads are very bad. This cost me 30 USD roundtrip and the driver even waited for me while I hiked to the lake. The second thing to see are the Kolsai Lakes. From the parking lot, you can hike around the first lake or hike an addition 10 km towards the second lake or make it into an overnight trip to hike to the third lake. The last few days of my trip I had spent just outside of Almaty exploring the skii resort of Shymbulak and the popular Big Almaty Lake. At the time of this video recording, the road leading up to Big Almaty Lake is closed so I recommend talking to a local and asking about the current conditions.
