This is the second part of my C64 Mini Joystick series. In the first I talked about what was wrong with it, and how it worked. In this video I'll discuss Jonas Pettersson's excellent mod which allows for any DB9 based joystick (C64/Atari2600 era) to work. I'll show the pinouts, how to map them to the C64 Mini, and how this will allow for the mini's controls to still be used. If you've broken the stick on your mini this mod should still work for you. All credit for this mod goes to Jonas Pettersson. I'm merely documenting it so others can replicate it. Note: The screen is as popular as the mod! TI's a Kuman 5" LCD Screen (https://amzn.to/3sPvU6M) Some links you'll find handy: Gurce.net has the c64 mini forum, and a hardware compat table which links to the facebook post, and shows other DB9 USB adapters. https://gurce.net/c64mini/hardware_co... To be clear, the reason this is better than an adapter is that it lets you use the C64 mini joysticks buttons to navigate the UI still, while letting you plug in (quick and easy) any Atari or C64 joystick. This is because it's essentially using the pinout for the DB9 as a pass through the mini. This also means that you don't have to worry about remapping keys...if the game works with the Mini joystick, it works with this! Thanks for watching, and if you have any questions please leave them below and I'll do what I can to help out. I've been having a blast using a quickshot II on my mini. Note: Here is the DB9 adapter I used (you only need the male one, but I got the pair since I may built a custom joystick next now that I know how they work : ) ) https://www.amazon.com/Breakout-Conne... Note: There are 2 other fixes that I mention: 1 is to simply use a simple usb gamepad with at least 8 buttons. The Gurce.net link above goes to the wiki and will show which are compatable. The other fix is to get a USB to DB9 (again, Gurce.net shows compatible) but you'll have to switch between the mini joystick to control menus/bring up the virtual keyboard, and the one you plug into the adapter. See the original mod on Facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/groups/20928... Thanks for watching, and happy retro gaming!
